This summer marks the
40th anniversary of the Summer of Love—a season in 1967 where 100,000
flooded San Francisco to experience the hippie movement, marked by
drugs, casual sex, perversion, mysticism and rebellion against God
and authority. Despite the outflow of creativity during this time,
the purity and beauty of real love was tainted.
It's time we sought real love, wrought with compassion, worship and sacrifice.
Through our rich histories, many have fasted and it brought new beginnings.
It may have taken 40 years to get us where we are today, but may we seek
God for 40 days to seek a new kind of authentic love. It is time
to pray. It is time to fast. Starving our hunger, yes. But taking
it farther. Starving our apathy. Our technology. Our consumption. Our
greed. Our senses. This is a call to 40 days of starvation.
Let's have a Summer of Love in seeking the face of the one who loves
us by starving our life so we can find real love and life again. Join
us with Fast and Pray as we
call for 40 Days of holistic fasting from Monday, May 28th to Saturday,
July 7. Following Isaiah 58 and Joel 2, this is a call to starve ourselves
so that we might see a new Spirit of Love on the face of the earth.
